More people are being hospitalised with heat stroke than last year. What’s more, the high temperatures are predicted to continue until October. To prevent heat stroke:
1. Stay hydrated!
2. Avoid direct sunlight and take breaks in the shade.
3. Wear breathable clothing.
4. Make sure to get enough sleep.
5. Use air conditioning and fans (but the temperature should not be too high, nor too low). Many public buildings throughout Fukuoka have air conditioning – such as department stores and convenience stores. A variety of products exist to help you keep your cool, including frozen pillows, cooling sprays and UV-protective parasols. If you start to develop symptoms, then make sure to rest, drink, replenish lost electrolytes, and cool yourself down with a cold towel or ice pack. The City has more advice on their website.
