Swim Championship Merchandise: Fukuoka’s Culture in Focus

In anticipation of the World Aquatics Championships kicking off in Fukuoka City next week, sales of official merchandise, including specially designed Hakata dolls, have begun. The official merchandise is being sold at a dedicated shop set up in a commercial facility adjacent to Hakata Station. The store is brimming with roughly 70 types of goods, from T-shirts to towels, all featuring the official mascot.

Among these items, a standout is the Hakata doll, which is designed after the “Kakiyama” carriers in Hakata Gion Yamakasa, a traditional summer festival in Hakata. Made especially for the championship, the doll sports an impressive blue Happi coat. In addition to this, Hakata curved goods bearing the championship’s logo are on display. These are intended to introduce traditional crafts of Fukuoka to swimming fans visiting from all over the world. Source: NHK / World Aquatics Championships
