A symposium was held in Kumamoto City on the 26th with representatives of that city, Fukuoka City, and Kagoshima City to sign an agreement to work together for Kyushu development following the opening of the Kyushu Shinkansen in 2011. The mayors of the three cities and the president of JR Kyushu participated in a panel discussion on the role of those cities in creating the Kyushu of the future. The symposium, sponsored in part by the Nishinippon Shimbun, was attended by about 200 people.
