A tea house and waiting area at Taishōji Temple in Kitakyushu’s Yahatahigashi Ward were approved for registration as national tangible cultural properties. Built around 1971, the wooden tea house features two rooms of different sizes designed in a traditional style, while the roofed waiting bench uses log pillars in a sukiya design. The path between them includes a garden created by noted Showa-era landscape artist Mirei Shigemori, and officials said the harmony between the structures and garden contributed to the selection. With the addition, Fukuoka Prefecture will have 251 registered cultural assets. Source: Fukuoka Prefecture
