The National Tax Agency announced an extension to the deadline for final tax returns (kakuteishinkoku) until April 16. The agency announced on February 27 that the deadlines to file income tax, gift tax (original deadline: 3/16) as well as consumption tax for sole proprietors (original deadline: 3/31) would be extended to avoid overcrowding at tax offices. The agency also recommends people to use the online filing system, via PCs and smartphones. Source: Nikkei 02/27/2020
