Fukuoka Prefecture continues to face a teacher shortage, with 198 unfilled positions at municipal elementary and junior high schools outside designated cities as of May 1. While slightly down from last year, vacancies remain high at 130 for elementary and 68 for junior high schools. To address this, the prefectural board is increasing the use of temporary teaching licenses, with 642 such hires across schools this year, up by 100 from last year. Officials plan to improve hiring processes and encourage former teachers and license holders to return to the profession. Source: NHK
