Japan’s agriculture ministry issued a corrective recommendation to a Fukuoka-based company operating the Tempura Takao chain for mislabeling blended rice as Fukuoka-produced. The ministry said the company served a mix of rice from Fukuoka, Ibaraki, and Niigata prefectures at 21 outlets while displaying notices stating that only Fukuoka rice was used. About 80 tons of blended rice were provided between early March and late June. The company explained that supply shortages led it to rely on advice from suppliers without confirming labeling rules with authorities. Since a June inspection, it has changed in-store displays to “domestic rice” and said most outlets now use only Fukuoka-grown rice. Source: Tempura Takao
