Fukuoka City has unveiled the first completion images for the integrated redevelopment of the Shin-Tencho shopping arcade and the Fukuoka Parco area, a flagship project under the Tenjin Big Bang urban renewal program. The plan calls for demolishing Shin-Tencho, Parco’s main and annex buildings, and part of the Nishitetsu Fukuoka Tenjin Station building, then unifying the east and west sites into a large mixed-use complex. At street level, a new shopping arcade will be created to connect Tenjin and Daimyo while inheriting the atmosphere of Shin-Tencho. The area’s iconic clock tower will also be preserved in a redesigned form. The complex will include retail space, offices, a high-grade hotel, and cultural facilities such as a live music venue and museum. A new underground passage directly linked to Tenjin Subway Station is planned. Total project costs are estimated at ¥189 billion, with design work set to begin next fiscal year and completion targeted for the 2030s. Source: TNC
