On Nov. 4, Fukuoka City announced that the national land ministry has approved its application to relax building height restrictions in Tenjin along Meiji-dori Ave. Undertaken as part of the City’s efforts to ease restrictions within the recently awarded National Strategic Zone, this will allow buildings to reach 76m, about 10m taller than was previously allowed under the Civil Aeronautics Act. The relaxed restrictions will apply to an area of about 700m from east to west centered on the Tenjin Subway Station. The City hopes this will spur urban redevelopment since many of the buildings along Meiji-dori Ave. are nearing the end of their lifespans. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 11/6
