The Payments Japan Association will introduce a standardized QR code system to alleviate current complexities caused by the use of multiple payment systems. A test will be conducted in four prefectures including Fukuoka beginning in August 2019. As the country promotes wider use of cashless payments, the introduction of multiple payment systems has burdened shops and restaurants by requiring different devices to be used with their cashier system. The government-industry organization aims to reduce those troubles with an integrated QR code; shops can accept Paypay, LINE Pay, Origami and other payments with just one QR code.
