Fukuoka Prefecture and its assembly established three independent investigation panels on Sep. 17. Two prefectural panels, each comprising five lawyers, will examine organized purchases of political fundraising tickets by senior officials and the costs and necessity of overseas activities. The overseas inquiry covers 56 activities dating back to fiscal 2021, and both panels aim to complete reports by the end of March 2027. The prefecture expects those two investigations to cost more than 110 million yen, drawn from its reserve budget. A separate assembly panel will investigate alleged payments connected to the speaker and deputy speaker posts, with eight lawyers conducting interviews and five others compiling findings.
