The 16-meter tall torii gate that leads up to Hakozakigu Shrine will be demolished by the end of April. Sections of the gate, which faces National Highway 3, have started to fall off due to the age of the construction. The reinforced concrete structure was built in 1930 and has been designated as a National Important Cultural Property, but it has been decided that cost of repairing or reconstructing the gate will be too expensive. The deconstruction began on March 12. Source: Mainichi Shimbun, 3/8/2018
