Toshiba announced it would extend the planned shutdown of its semiconductor production plants in Kyushu during the yearend period. The operation rate at its Kitakyushu and Oita City plants is already low, but the yearend shutdown will now last more than three weeks and extend into mid-January. The company has already announced it will lay off about 580 non-full time workers at those plants by next March.
