Toyota Motors announced it would suspend production of its luxury Lexis and other models at some lines at its Aichi and Fukuoka plants on the 24th and 25th this month. The step, which is being taken in response to a downturn in global auto demand, is extremely rare for Toyota. Most of the output of the Fukuoka plant is exported to the United States. The company has already decided to eliminate the second shift and run the factory only during normal working hours. Further, the company has decided to cut the salary and bonus of about 8,700 executives by 10% next fiscal year.
