Toyota Motors Kyushu announced that it planned to cancel the contracts of 800 seconded employees, nearly 10% of its workforce, due to scheduled production cutbacks. The production cutbacks are a result of high gas prices and the decelerating economy in the U.S., its largest overseas market. Nevertheless, it plans to rehire 500 of those employees to work on new models before the end of the year.
