Toyota Motor said that its Fukuoka Prefecture-based subsidiary Toyota Kyushu would reduce production by 20%, centered on the upscale Lexus sold in the China market. The anti-Japanese demonstrations in China have led to a falloff in sales and increased inventories, so the cutback will take effect this month. In numerical terms, that will be a reduction from roughly 1,300 units produced a day to about 1,000. The company had no word on how long the cutback would last.
