Traditional Crafts Exhibition Opens in Fukuoka

The annual Seibu Traditional Crafts Exhibition opened in Fukuoka’s Tenjin district, featuring around 250 artisan works from Kyushu, Okinawa, and Yamaguchi. Among them, Okinawan artist Mako Ohama won the top prize for her kimono “After the Rain,” woven using the Shuri-based “roton-ori” technique to capture the glow of sunlight following summer showers. Fukuoka-based Tomoko Kashima’s award-winning ceramic bowl “Light” was praised for its layered glaze and radiating line design. The exhibition continues at Fukuoka Mitsukoshi until June 2.
