The number of fatalities from traffic accidents in all Kyushu prefectures in 2007 declined from year-before totals. The total of 199 fatalities in Fukuoka Prefecture was the lowest annual total ever recorded. It was also the first time the total fell below 200 people since statistics began being kept in 1946. The prefectural police attribute this to efforts to end drunk driving.
