The Kyushu Transport Bureau reported that the number of travelers using the regularly scheduled ship routes between Kyushu/Yamaguchi Prefecture and South Korea in FY 2010 totaled 1.106 million passengers. That was a 27.4% year-on-year increase and the first time the number of passengers had broken the one-million level in two years. That came despite a 35.6% drop in March after the Tohoku earthquake. Eight companies are operating high-speed jetfoils and ferries between the two regions.
