A tragic incident unfolded in the parking lot of a commercial facility in Yahatanishi Ward, Kitakyushu City, where a 10-month-old boy was discovered unresponsive in a car and later confirmed dead. Both parents are said to have assumed the other was looking after the child, leading to the boy being left in the car for approximately two and a half hours. The incident occurred in the afternoon on the 26th, at the parking lot of the Costco Kitakyushu Warehouse store.
The family, residents of Kokura Kita Ward in Kitakyushu, consisted of six members and had come for shopping. They arrived at the parking lot around 10 a.m. First, the father and a female acquaintance exited the car and entered the store. They were followed by the mother, a 5-year-old brother, and a 3-year-old sister. At this point, the young boy was left behind in his child seat behind the driver’s seat. Both parents believed the other had taken the child out of the car.
The parents were shopping separately and did not realize the absence of their son until later. It is suspected that the boy was left in the car, with the engine off, for about two and a half hours under scorching sun.
