Transportation Cancellations Announced for Fukuoka As Typhoon Nears

As powerful Typhoon Haishen approaches Kyushu, some transportation companies have announced service cancellations. Fukuoka City Subway will suspend operation on Sep. 7, between Meinohama to Nishijin (Kuko Line) and Maidashi-Kyudaibyoinmae to Kaizuka (Hakozaki Line.) Trains might be canceled as early as the afternoon of Sep. 6. Nishitetsu will suspend train and local-bus operations from 21:00 on Sep. 6 until Sep. 7. The company’s expressway buses will also be canceled on Sep. 7 (*or Sep. 6 depending on the situation.) Operations of shinkansen (bullet train), connecting Hakata Station Kagoshima and Hiroshima, might be suspended respectively on Sep. 6 ~ 7 and Sep. 7. JR Kyushu might also cancel conventional trains between Sep. 6 to 7. Additionally, some commercial facilities announced shorter shop hours for Sep. 6 and shop closure on Sep. 7. Seven and I Holdings announced they will close approximately 1,000 7-11 shops in Kyushu beginning on Sep. 5

Meanwhile, Fukuoka Prefecture advises people to take the following actions before and amidst the typhoon’s landing:

– Secure or take in items on verandas.
– Stay away from windows when the wind is strong.
– Avoid going out during strong winds and rain.
– Do not go close to the sea, rivers, or other dangerous spots.
– Consider evacuating early as situations might get worse at night.
– Keep updated with information provided on the JMA website, TV, radio, and so on.
– Pay close attention to ‘warning level 4’ notifications from local governments.

Additionally, residents are asked to take anti-coronavirus precautions, including bringing masks and sanitizers to shelters or taking shelter at a friend’s home.
