Transportation Companies Take Steps to Discourage Travel During Golden Week

Local transportation companies have announced limited schedules for the upcoming Golden Week holidays. Nishitetsu announced on April 22 that it would reduce the number of local-bus services between May 2 and 6. Compared to the regular weekends and holidays, 35-percent fewer buses will operate inside Fukuoka City, while 10-percent fewer in Kitakyushu City. Detailed timetables are available on the company’s online bus schedule system. Meanwhile, West Nippon Expressway Company revealed that it would cancel ongoing holiday discounts on highway tolls during the holidays (4/29 and 5/2~5/6.) The company also informed drivers that souvenir shops inside service areas (SA) and parking areas (PA) would be closed during the holidays. Gas stations and other essential services will be available at such spots as usual. Companies are trying to reduce the number of inter-prefectural travelers. Sources: Nishitetsu / Nexco
