Travel to Kyushu Soars with Event-Driven Tourism

In July, foreign visitors to Kyushu, including Fukuoka City, rebounded to pre-pandemic levels, reaching 266,019. This resurgence is credited to an increase in flights and events like the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka. The numbers are on par with July 2019, even though that year saw a 10% decrease due to strained Japan-South Korea relations. The Kyushu District Transport Bureau anticipates the positive trend to continue, especially with the lifting of travel restrictions for Chinese tourist groups in August.
