The Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport announced it will begin trial use in the new fiscal year of a smart card for use as a common railway ticket in Asia. The trials will begin in Fukuoka City, the Kansai region, Singapore, Seoul, and Hong Kong. These trials, which will last until summer, are complicated by the different systems in use at ticket gates in each of the countries. If successful, the cards are expected to facilitate travel and tourism in the region.
