Two Arrested for Impersonating Police in Fukuoka Traffic Incident

In February, a dangerous traffic accident occurred in Fukuoka’s Chuo Ward when two men, posing as police officers in a vehicle equipped with sirens and red lights, ran a red light and collided with a taxi, injuring the driver and three passengers. The suspects, Riku Motomura, 24, from Nagasaki, and Kota Ogi, 25, from Kitakyushu, were arrested on charges of dangerous driving causing injuries. The incident unfolded when the men, using a microphone to announce their entry into the intersection, followed an actual police car, creating the illusion of an authorized emergency operation. Following the accident, they themselves called the emergency services, and the investigation leveraged surveillance footage to establish their culpability. The police are investigating how the suspects acquired the emergency equipment and continue to probe their intentions, as initial reports suggest they wanted to emulate a real police interrogation they observed.
