Two Chinese nationals have been arrested and indicted for allegedly defrauding stores in Fukuoka using barcode payment screens tied to other people’s accounts. The suspects are believed to have operated a fraudulent e-commerce site, tricking users into displaying barcodes during video calls under the pretense of issuing refunds. Investigators say they then used the screenshots to purchase around ¥190,000 worth of goods, including gaming devices. Authorities suspect the fraud ring was organized, with multiple accomplices already arrested. The scheme is thought to have been active from 2023 into last year. Source: NHK
