Two Oscar Winners are Kyushu Natives


Two winners of Oscars at the American Academy Awards are Kyushu natives. Kundo Kuyama, the scriptwriter for the movie Departures, which won the award for best foreign language film, is from Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture. Meanwhile, the award winner for best animated film, Tsumiki no Ie (The House of Small Cubes), was directed by Kunio Kato, who is from Kagoshima Prefecture. Said Kato, “I am happy that I could receive such a grand award.”
