Two Students Stabbed in Kitakyushu; Police Investigate Random Attack

Two middle school students were stabbed at a fast-food restaurant in Kitakyushu’s Kokuraminami Ward on December 14, resulting in the death of 15-year-old Saaya Nakajima. Police investigations revealed the suspect bypassed other customers in line and attacked the two students waiting at the end of the queue.

The incident occurred at a McDonald’s along Route 322 around 8:30 p.m. The male suspect, described as approximately 40 years old, 170 cm tall, wearing a gray jacket, black pants, and yellowish sandals, fled on foot within 30 seconds of entering the store. Footage from multiple security cameras indicates he exited in a northern direction.

The male student, also 15, sustained serious injuries to his lower back and stated he had no prior connection to the attacker. Police are still investigating whether the suspect knew the female victim and are treating the case as a possible random assault.

The restaurant’s entrances face both the highway and a parking lot, with the students reportedly stopping at the restaurant after cram school. The scene has since drawn mourners, including a university student and tutor who expressed sorrow over the loss of a promising young life. Police continue to search for the armed suspect.
