The Kyushu Bureau of Economy, Trade, and Industry released its survey of 2007 venture capital-backed business startups that were developed at universities. Only eight of these companies were launched in Kyushu last year, which marks a significant slowdown from the 16 to 28 startups per year from 2001 to 2006. The bureau said that considering the overall economic downturn and that most university graduates want to work for major corporations in what they termed was a sellers’ market, the figures could be viewed as having held steady.
