US Consulate Fukuoka Cocktail Contest

The U.S. Consulate in Fukuoka invites bartenders and mixology aficionados in Kyushu and Yamaguchi Prefecture to make the best tasting marriage between American spirits and local flavor in a cocktail competition. Start with a U.S. alcohol, mixing in additional ingredients of your choice, and develop an original cocktail with a local flavor and an “American spirit.” This nomeru friendship cocktail should help promote new ways for the Japanese drinking audience to enjoy American spirits.

The winner will be recognized with a certificate and prize, and the winning recipe and bartender will be featured at the reception at the Consulate’s annual Independence Day Reception.

How to Submit: Submit your cocktail recipe and name to FukuokaBusiness@state.gov by email or postal mail (Ryoujikan Cocktail Contest Uketsuke, 2-5-26 Ohori, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka, Japan). You may also submit a photograph of the cocktail for reference.

Rules of Entry:
• All recipes must include at least one U.S.-produced and branded spirits.
• U.S. alcohol and all ingredients must be available for sale in Japan.
• Winning cocktail will be selected by a judging committee assigned by and representing the U.S. Consulate in Fukuoka.
• The criteria for selection are: (1) taste, (2) creativity of the recipe, (3) originality of the cocktail’s name, and (4) the recipe’s embodiment of the friendly U.S.-Japan relations.
• Special consideration will be given to recipes that use craft U.S. spirits, and/or multiple U.S. ingredients.
• Winning contestant and runner-up contestants should be willing to have her or his name, photo, description of the drink, recipe, and the name of her or his bar, if applicable, publicly announced by the U.S. Consulate in Fukuoka, and possibly published by local media.
• The recipe may recommend a specific type of glass but for the purpose of this contest, it will be prepared and served in a standard, un-chilled highball tumbler. No fire or cooking may be part of the preparation of the cocktail.
• Contestants can submit more than one entry, but each separate entry must have 50% different ingredients than their other entries.
• We will not publish any non-winning recipes.
• Winning recipes may be published for promotional purposes, but not without the permission of the creator.
