Veggie Quarantines For Foreign Visitors To Kyushu To Be Streamlined

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has announced plans to conduct advance quarantine screenings for fruits and veggies in an effort to make them easier for foreign tourists visiting by cruise ship to purchase and take home. Under the new scheme, which will launch in April, tourists who buy produce from Roadside Stations and other outlets can have them shipped directly to their cruise ships by Yamato Transport Co., the ministry’s corporate partner, where they will be screened while the tourists sightsee. With an eye primarily on the large numbers of tourists from Korea and Taiwan, the ministry will begin implementing the new system at the ports of Hakata and Nagasaki. Source: Nikkei Shimbun 1/11
