A questionnaire survey for the Unchiku no Tabi tourism course created by Kyushu government and private sector officials found that respondents selected the view at the border between Kumamoto and Kagoshima prefectures as the best from a train window in Japan. The view is available from both the JR Hohi main line and the JR Hisatsu line. The company conducting the survey said there is a growing number of travelers who want to see sites with scenic beauty and sites with great historical interest, as opposed to the travelers whose objectives are dining and shopping.
