Boasting more than 1,250,000 books in stock, the Fukuoka City Public Library Main Library is also equipped with a movie hall Ciné-là (246 seats), and houses approx. 1,000 titles of Japanese and Asian films, as well as many domestic films that set in Fukuoka. It sometimes shows classic and international films too.

Fukuoka Prefectural Library houses government documents and company histories. Business seminars targeting mothers, retirees, or those interested in start-ups are sometimes held on the premises, and library staff can assist in finding books and documents. There’s also a children’s library on the first floor.

Business-minded readers are sure to get a lot out of the BIZCOLI membership-based library which is organized and operated by the Kyushu Economic Research Center. Located on the 5th floor of Denki Bld. Kyosokan on Watanabe-dori, it offers various workshops which are useful for networking.

Other unique libraries include the Fukuoka City Citizen Welfare Plaza (Fuku Fuku Plaza) in Arato, Chuo-ku, and the Fukuoka City Children’s Science & Culture Center Library in Maizuru, Chuo-ku. The former has books on social welfare service, and offers reading service for the visually impaired. The latter houses books for children (ranging from kindergarten aged through senior-high students). With so much on offer, you’re sure to find a library that matches your interest and needs.
