Woman Arrested for Chihuahua Thievery in Kitakyushu

A 50-year-old woman was arrested for stealing a Chihuahua from a pet store in Kitakyushu City. According to the police, the 50-year-old woman is suspected of stealing a 3-month-old male Chihuahua that was on display at a pet store in Yahatanishi-ku in April this year. After asking a clerk to take the Chihuahua in her arms, the suspect created a diversion by screaming that the dog was pooping and fled the store with the pooch. According to police, the suspect had visited the store numerous times and was registered as a customer. Investigators found the Chihuahua at her home. She claimed she got the pet from a friend, but information on the microchip data inside the dog matched that of the stolen Chihuahua. The revised Animal Protection and Control Law, which requires pet dogs and other pets to be fitted with a microchip, went into effect on June 1, 2022. Source: KBC
