A ceremony marking the start of construction on the Nagasaki leg of the Shinkansen was held in a public park in Ureshino, Saga Prefecture, on the 28th. The section of the route being built runs 45.7 kilometers from Takeo Onsen in Saga to Isahaya in Nagasaki Prefecture. The work is expected to take 10 years and cost about 260 billion yen.
