Yamaka Shoyu of Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and the National Fisheries University have successfully developed a new type of soy sauce using small pieces of whale meat formerly disposed by a local maritime products processing company. Food critics have hailed the product, saying that it is both delicious and healthful. The company plans to start sales of the product in June.
