The Kyushu Bureau of Economy, Trade, and Industry released its seasonally adjusted mining and manufacturing index for the month of January (2005=100). The index declined 13.1% to 67.9, the fourth consecutive monthly downturn. It is the largest single monthly decline since the index was first compiled in 1960. Of the 17 sectors covered by the index, only those for food products and textiles did not fall.
