Yahoo Big Data Revealed Only 37% Decline in Morning Commuting in Fukuoka

The Yahoo! Japan Big Data project team showed 37% fewer people visited the central area of Hakata on the morning of April 8, compared to regular weekdays in early February. The report reveals the limited effect of the region’s latest anti-coronavirus efforts, which follow the declaration of a state of emergency. A similar study by NTT Docomo showed 20.4% fewer visitors to the area of Tenjin as of 19:00 on April 8, compared to the night before. Sharper declines were reported for the visitors to major stations in Tokyo, where the Governor announced stricter requirements on limiting social activities. The national government aims to reduce contact amongst people by 80%. Source: Yahoo! 2020-04-10
