Yahoo! x Fukuoka City Disaster Prevention Information System

On Aug. 4 (Thu.), Yahoo announced that it is teaming up with Fukuoka City to provide alerts through its pre-existing Yahoo! Japan Disaster Alert App. Now, users with their location set to Fukuoka (either by allowing the app to see your current location, or changing your region setting to “municipalities within Fukuoka City”) can receive alerts with accurate, up-to-date information from the City, such as early earthquake warnings, evacuation information, volcanic eruption announcements and warnings of “guerilla rain”. The app currently supplies such information to its 7.5 million users, but now these messages will appear as alerts (rather than users having to actively check the app) and the information will come directly from the City. Fukuoka City is the first local government in Japan to work together with Yahoo in order to better disseminate disaster-related information. Source: Yahoo! Japan News, 8/4
