Yame City Hosts First Tea Auction of the Year with Record Prices

In Yame City, one of Japan’s premier tea-producing regions, the first new tea auction of the year was held at the Tea Trading Center on April 17. As tea picking reached its peak season, more than 150 lots of fresh Yame tea were assessed by traders for color and texture before tasting. The highest bid reached ¥100,000 per kilogram, reflecting the exceptional quality of this year’s crop. The auction, aligned with the tea harvesting season, showcases the depth of flavor and aroma characteristic of Yame tea, renowned for its richness. Yusuke Koga, the head of the Fukuoka Prefecture Tea Industry Cooperative, highlighted the ongoing production of high-quality tea, inviting consumers to savor the taste of early summer.
