Yame~Ukiha 2.6 km tunnel opens in 2018

Construction of the Oze-Mino Tunnel, which connects Hoshino Village in Yame to Ukiha Town in Ukiha has been completed. Work on the tunnel began in July of 2014 and the excavation was completed without any major problems. The tunnel was built to facilitate an easier commute between the two cities as the current mountain pass is troublesome to traverse in winter and has many curves along a narrow path. Once the tunnel officially opens in 2018 the trip between the two towns will be much faster and safer. Source: Fukuoka Prefecture, 3/4
