Nishi-Nippon Railroad Co. announced that construction will begin in April 2026 on a new community and tourism complex in front of Nishitetsu Yanagawa Station, with opening scheduled for June 2027. The project is part of the second phase of a joint redevelopment initiative with Fukuoka Prefecture and Yanagawa City to revitalize the station area. The two-story, steel-frame building will be constructed on the former Karatachi shopping arcade site at the station’s west exit, with a total floor area of about 1,500 square meters. The first floor will include a tourist information center, as well as retail and dining outlets featuring local food products and crafts from the Chikugo region. The second floor will house accommodation facilities. The broader redevelopment plan, covering approximately 6,400 square meters, also includes canal improvements by the prefecture and plaza and pedestrian space development by the city, integrating a boat boarding area and waterfront zone. Yanagawa welcomed about 1.21 million visitors in 2024, including around 210,000 international tourists. Source: Nishitetsu Group
