Kitakyushu-based Yaskawa Electric announced plans to boost by 10 times their production capacity for power convertors for solar power generating systems by 2013. In conjunction with this, they plan to invest several hundred million yen to expand the production line at their plant in Yukuhashi, Fukuoka Prefecture. The company expects increased demand due to the increased construction of solar power plants with the start of a system that requires the utilities purchase the energy generated by renewable sources at higher, fixed costs.
