Shayne is an English teacher living and working in Fukuoka, but his passion is art. Despite studying film at university, Shayne has gravitated toward audio art since arriving in Japan. He felt the pull after watching a lot of live music-mostly jazz-and then discovering Fukuoka’s underground music scene. He performs in a more traditional sense, providing accompanying sounds for Monster Movie, a jazz improv band, among others. But other nights, you’ll find him in art galleries feeding extreme noise through filters and effects pedals, accompanied by anything from men playing bicycles to visual artists creating images on-the-fly. Shayne is one of the founders of Art Space Tetra, located near Hakata Riverain, a center for local and international alternative art. Catch him at the Voodoo Lounge on Jan. 10 & 23.
