There were 976 cases of HIV infection and 413 cases of AIDS reported in 2017 – a combined total of 1,389 cases. For the past 14 years, the number of cases of HIV and AIDS has been over 1,000 each year. In Fukuoka City, there were 39 cases of HIV infection in 2017 and 15 cases of AIDS – a combined total of 54, a new record high. However, these figures include only those who were tested, meaning there are more people going about their daily lives unaware that they have been infected.
