There were 940 cases of HIV infection and 377 cases of AIDS reported in 2018 – a combined total of 1,317 cases. For the past 15 years, the number of cases of HIV and AIDS has been over 1,000 each year. In Fukuoka City, there were 23 cases of HIV infection in 2018 and 17 cases of AIDS – a combined total of 40. However, these figures include only those who were tested, meaning there are more people going about their daily lives in Fukuoka and Kyushu, unaware that they have been infected with HIV.
