AJET Luau & Skills Auction

START: Mar 2, 2013 END: Mar 2, 2013

Aloha! Like cultural exchange and want to DO something about it? We’re looking for people to bid, dress up, and dance at the 1st Annual Fukuoka AJET Hawaiian Luau & Skills Auction! Fukuoka AJET is the Fukuoka chapter of the Association for Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme participants. It actively plans social, charity, and international exchange events around the prefecture for the Fukuoka JET community, friends, and anyone else who wants to join!

What is it?
This “skills auction” consists of volunteers auctioning off a talent which they want to share with you! Examples include: a beginner scuba diving session, Tahitian dance lessons, Spanish conversation class, a tour of Takayama and Shirakawa, and so much more!

There will be plenty of live entertainment including hula dance performances and a DJ, Hawaiian-themed festivities to celebrate the Fukuoka-Hawaii sister state relationship, food and drink as well as a Hawaiian-outfit contest. Make sure to come in your best Hawaiian shirt, grass skirt, and lei for a chance to win an iPod shuffle!

All money collected from auction items will go to the brand-new Fukuoka AJET Scholarship Fund. This fund provides financial resources for an ALT-endorsed Fukuoka Prefectural senior high school student to go on a two-week homestay in an English-speaking country during summer break. (Candidates will go through an application and interview process determined by the Fukuoka AJET Scholarship Committee.) To learn more about this scholarship, please contact us at
