Sazaesan-dori Week

A whole week of Sazae-san themed events start this weekend, to celebrate the second anniversary of “Sazaesan-dori”. For those not up to speed, “Sazaesan-dori” is a municipal road in Fukuoka’s Sawara-ku which was renamed so in 2012, in honor of the nationally popular comic “Sazae-san”. Ms. Machiko Hasegawa, author of the anime, was said to have conceived the idea for the Sazae-san series whilst in Fukuoka’s Sawara-ku. The 2nd anniversary celebrations include the following events…

➢Sazae-san Exhibition
An exhibition of Sazae-san author, Machiko Hasegawa’s original drawing, her personal items and items displaying her relationship with Fukuoka. Meet Sazae-san (mascot!) at the exhibition on 5/20, 6/1, 6/8, 6/22, and 7/6.

Join this 3.5km walking course, which includes Sazae-san Street. First 150 participants receive Sazae-san goods, and the Sazae-san mascot waits to greet you at your goal point!
