August is the hottest month of the year in Fukuoka and while many take refuge indoors with air conditioning, dining al fresco at a yatai is recommended too. In this issue we introduce a brand new and very unique yatai, Chez Rémy. The French owner is a long-time Fukuoka resident and, unsurprisingly, he offers French dishes such as quiche, escargot, and bouillabaisse ramen! Our recommended bar is also rather unique; Vowz Bar Hakata is run by a Zen Priest. No typo! Takeuchi, an ordained Buddhist priest, not only shakes a proper cocktail but also offers consultations. Sobakiri Hatae featured on our Noodle Page is the place to go for delicate soba noodles, tempting tempura and a carefully matched cup of sake. For a light lunch or a healthy dessert, Tokio, located in the basement of the IMS Building, has fruit-centric parfait, juices, and sandwiches. Finally, kakigori fans looking to cool off with some shaved ice should see our featured guide covering three new spots to discover and enjoy.
