Fukuoka City Mayor Seeks Third Term

Fukuoka City Mayor Soichiro Takashima is set to run for a third term in office. The Oita-native and former TV announcer was first elected into the role in 2010. Mayor Takashima expressed his intention to campaign for another term in the next mayoral election to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Taro Aso during a trip to Tokyo in late September. Mayor Takashima also paid a visit to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the official residence while in the capital. Prior to the announcement, there had been speculation that Mr. Takashima was going to be given a cabinet position in Prime Minister Abe’s recent reshuffle. Source: Sankei News, 9/30/2018
